Cover Your Kingdom by Grandpa Beck’s Games
When I first spoke to Jeff Beck of Grandpa Beck’s Games about Cover Your Kingdom he told me the intent behind this game was start bridging the gap between their family games and hobby games. Having played several sessions of the game already I can attest that he has succeeded in that goal. You can still play the game with family but, depending on everyone’s demeanor, they may not want to play with you again. I love the ruthless take that style of the game and have to admit to a touch schadenfreude when I see someone’s kingdom collapsing. So long as it isn’t mine, mind you. The game is affordable at $25 with free US shipping. Or you can buy their greatest hits plus Cover Your Kingdom for $49!
The greatest hits include: Cover Your Assets (upon which Cover Your Kingdom is based), The Bears and the Bees, and Skull King. I have played the latter two in that list and they are a lot of fun. The Bears and the Bees is a mellow game but can be a bit of a brain-burner if you obsess over your turn too much. Skull King is a fun trick-taking game (similar to Spades or Hearts) with a pirate theme.
We already wrote a Pre-Game Report about this game that you can read here.
The Goblin King is Angry by IION Games
We did a Pre-Game Report on this one too and I like it enough to include it as an entrant this week. I won’t belabor the point too much on this one since we’ve already written a little about it. I love the twist on the castle defense game where you get to play as the invaders instead of the defenders. Goblins are people too!
Remarkable Shops & Their Wares by LoreSmyth
All right, the third entry in this week’s picks is another we’ve already written about in our Pre-Game Reports. I don’t mean to be redundant by bringing up aforementioned campaigns. I’m just excited to see these projects get funded and you should be too! This book is system-neutral and the creator, LoreSmyth has proven successful at both DriveThruRPG material as well as Kickstarters. If you are into tabletop role-playing games at all I urge you to take a look at this campaign!
Concluding this week’s Kickstart Your Week
