Kickstart Your Week—2018.10.28
Last week we covered some great Kickstarters and I’m happy to report that two of those have since been fully funded (the other two were already funded before my post was published). Venture Card Game and Wardens reached their goals shortly after I posted Kickstart Your Week—2018.10.21! I’m excited for these first-time creators.
Town Builder: Coevorden is doing well and it probably goes without saying that Tidal Blades continues to impress everyone.
But let’s move on the current Kickstart Your Week selectees.
1. The Dreams in Gary’s Basement
This is a documentary about Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax and a first-time project by Dorks of Yore. I know that ordinarily this is cause for consternation. But when I looked into who these people are (see below), I immediately felt confident that they could deliver a valuable documentary with high production standards. The Dreams in Gary’s Basement features interviews with such persons as Tim Kask, Frank Mentzer, Satine Phoenix, and Luke Gygax, Gary’s son.
Aside from the obviously high production evidenced in the Kickstarter video, there is another thing that caught my eye about this campaign. You’ll get your name in the credits for backing at the lowest reward tier available. This isn’t unique but generally, you must back at the second tier or higher. Dorks of Yore will thank you even if you back at the lowest level: $20 for a digital download of the finished documentary.
As of now, this campaign is 211% funded and I was the 601st backer. You have 18 more days to support this campaign. I’m eager to see how many backers this one can get.
2. Dungeon WC
This game, Dungeon WC, is a tongue-in-cheek adventure quest. It looks like a fun and light-hearted time. And who doesn’t like a toilet mimic…or wimic in this case (a Kickstarter Exclusive)? It reminds me of Rappan Athuk. This real-time coopeartive game is sure to give a lot of good laughs. Something good for the whole family. And inexpensive entertainment too. It’s $24 for the standard edition. I can’t take my family to the movies for that!
23 days are left in this campaign and they’re already 116% funded. Follow along to see how well they can do!
I like a good card game. Don’t get me wrong. I love a big table-hogging board game just as much as anyone. But I certainly appreciate a game that is simple in design and mechanics and deep in strategy and tactics. Volfyirion looks like the type of game to scratch all those itches. For less than $30 you can get the game and the dragon miniature (see below). Initially, I was worried it was just a gimmick to to sell a mini. However, it looks like getting the mini also means you get special rules so you can use it during gameplay. So I think it’s not just indulgent to go with the mini. It is justified indulgence!
493% funded and 17 days to go. This is an impressive campaign by Tabula Games!
