NonZerø Sum Games:
Hi, and thank you for your interest in NonZerø Sum Games. If you’ve come to this page then we’re sure you’re interested in knowing more about us. That is to say we’re thinking you’re interested knowing more about NonZerø Sum and the people behind it. We’ll start with NonZerø Sum Games (NZSG).
NZSG was founded in January 2016 with the intent of supporting the tabletop gaming community at large and creating reviews of popular, and even not so popular, games ranging from cards to dice to boards to role-playing games. Furthermore, we intend to create original supplemental material for existing games (Dungeons & Dragons, for example) and to create original games to either self-publish or work with a publisher to do it on our behalf.
In short, NonZerø Sum Games’ mission is to provide honest and insightful reviews of tabletop games, and to create original game content that is of the highest standard, best quality, and appealing to both hardcore and casual gamers alike.
We endeavor to be a trusted voice in the gaming community whether you’re a lifelong enthusiast or a parent looking to entertain children on rainy afternoons when things like Candyland and television have done as much as they can to combat the boredom.
Who’s Who:Patrick contributes most of our blog articles and reviews. He is a native of North Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a Master of Business Administration. He currently works for a large corporation in Atlanta as a Senior Financial Analyst. He has also worked in healthcare, banking, retail, and the U.S. Army. He also serves as a board member for a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer support “through crisis intervention, comprehensive support services and community collaboration…[and] create an environment for safe, healthy, self-sufficient growth and violence prevention.” He is a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins despite having never traveled to the city. A childhood friend introduced him to hockey during Pittsburgh’s heyday of Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr so rooting for the Penguins is a nostalgia of days-gone-by for Patrick.
Patrick enjoys reading science fiction, fantasy, horror, historical fiction, poetry, and biographies. He collects board games (obviously), books, comics (mostly independent titles), and Rubik’s Cubes. His favorite music includes blues, heavy metal, classic/hard rock, and alternative. He loves spicy food (a glutton for punishment) and craft beer. In fact he once used a stack of Budweiser to climb on and reach a 6-pack of Terrapin Hopsecutioner “just when [he] was thinking Budweiser wasn’t good for much”. His favorite games include Munchkin, Hive, and Dungeons & Dragons.
- “Talent is a dreadfully cheap commodity, cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work and study.” – Stephen King
- “Troops properly inspired, and animated by a just confidence in their leader will often exceed expectation, or the limits of probability.” – John Hancock
- “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss (or Gabriel García Márquez…it’s disputed)
- “Well, at least I’m not being eaten by a bear.” – Lemony Snicket
Patrick’s wife, Crystal, is a supportive wife and mother of their 4 children (hey, we told you Patrick was a collector) who also works a full-time job in the accounting department of a successful healthcare company in Alpharetta, Georgia. Her love for board games dates back to her childhood when she would ask for them as gifts in lieu of just about anything else. Receiving 13 Dead End Drive for Christmas as a kid would prove to be one of her most memorable moments of “the search” and to this day it is still a regular game in her family’s lineup and her kids have come to love it too. Also a native of North Georgia, she loves UGA football.
Crystal loves coming of age stories, horror, and personal triumph memoirs. Her favorite games include Ghost Blitz, Zombie Dice, Qwirkle, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and Guillotine.
Derek is the oldest child and has just entered the 6th grade. He currently plays the trombone in his school band and collects Pokémon cards. He loves to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, superhero comics, and anything concerning Pokémon. Having been born in North Carolina, he enjoys rooting for the North Carolina Tar Heels. His favorite games include Castle Panic, Boss Monster, Munchkin, and Dungeon. He also loves animals and hopes to become a veterinarian someday despite his cat allergy.
Baileigh is their next child and is currently bringing a lot of style and class to the 3rd grade. She loves volleyball, Awana, and participating on her school’s math competition team. She has recently taken an interest in poetry and discovered her favorite poem is Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. She is also in her school’s gifted program. Like her mother, she loves the Georgia Bulldogs. Her favorite games include Ghost Blitz, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Love Letter, and Cthulu Dice. She has her heart set on becoming an artist and wants to go the Savannah College of Art and Design when she leaves high school.
Next in the lineup is Logan. Staking his claim on the 2nd grade Logan also spends his time in the gifted program and participates in an afterschool STEM program. Like his sister, he competes on the school’s math team. Logan doesn’t particularly have a favorite sports team but he enjoys watching baseball and soccer. His favorite games include Ghooost!, Dixit, and Labyrinth. Logan’s interest in engineering comes from his desire to be an inventor when he grows up. His creative ideas continue to amaze us.
And finally we come to Gage. Gage hatched to Patrick and Crystal just over a year ago but his personality is already enormous. Loved by all, envied by some. We will watch his career with great interest. His favorite games include all of them. Anything he can reach and empty onto the floor is his favorite game at any given time.
